Description:

Usually has a blue to green color on it's body and fins with large black blotches. may have red or orange colors on it's body.

Location:

Introduced from South America into central and south Florida

Size:

May reach sizes of 2 lbs or more with less than 1 lb typical.

Spawning:

Spawns when water temps reach 82 to 91 degrees. Females lay up to 3000 egs in a raised nest. Both the male and female will guard the eggs and young.

Prey:

Feed mostly on small fish, insects, and amphibians.

Fishing notes:

Live baits such as cut fish, shrimp, and worms work well. Small spinnerbaits work well also.
